O first conditional (if + presente)
O first conditional fala de possibilidades reais no futuro: se isto acontecer, aquilo vai acontecer. Depois de if usa-se o presente, embora o português use o futuro do subjuntivo (“se chover”).
| oração com if | oração principal |
|---|---|
| If it rains, | we’ll stay at home. |
| If you don’t hurry, | you’ll miss the bus. |
Regras
- Depois de if, use o presente, e não will.
- A ordem pode mudar: We’ll stay at home if it rains (sem vírgula).
- unless = if not: I won’t go unless you come.
- when para coisas que com certeza vão acontecer: When I get home, I’ll call you.
Exemplos
- If you need help, I’ll come.Se você precisar de ajuda, eu vou.
- If the price goes down, we’ll buy it.Se o preço baixar, a gente compra.
- What will you do if they say no?O que você vai fazer se eles disserem não?
- I’ll be late unless I take a taxi.Vou me atrasar, a não ser que eu pegue um táxi.
- If it snows, the flight will be cancelled.Se nevar, o voo vai ser cancelado.
Erros comuns
- ✗ If you will study, you will pass the exam.✓ If you study, you will pass the exam.O “se você estudar” do português tem forma de futuro, mas depois de if o inglês usa o presente: if you study.
- ✗ If I see Paulo, I tell him the news.✓ If I see Paulo, I’ll tell him the news.Na oração principal do first conditional vai will: I’ll tell him.
- ✗ Unless you don’t hurry, you’ll be late.✓ Unless you hurry, you’ll be late.unless já significa “se não”; com don’t a frase fica com duas negações.
- ✗ If not rains tomorrow, we’ll go to the beach.✓ If it doesn’t rain tomorrow, we’ll go to the beach.O português diz “se não chover”, sem sujeito, mas em inglês a oração precisa de it e de doesn’t.
- ✗ What you will do if they cancel the flight?✓ What will you do if they cancel the flight?Na pergunta, will vem antes do sujeito: what will you do.
