Nível B1

Orações de tempo sobre o futuro

Depois de palavras de tempo como when, as soon as, before, after, until, usa-se o presente, e não will, mesmo falando do futuro. O português usa o futuro do subjuntivo (“quando eu chegar”).

oração de tempo (presente)oração principal (futuro)
When I get home,I’ll call you.
As soon as she arrives,we’ll start.
Until you finish, you won’t get paid.
After we’ve eaten,we’ll go for a walk.

Observações

  • Use o present perfect para frisar que a primeira ação já terminou: I’ll tell you when I’ve read it.
  • A oração de tempo pode vir primeiro (com vírgula) ou depois (sem vírgula).
  • when = vai acontecer; if = pode acontecer: When I see him … / If I see him …

Exemplos

  • I’ll text you when I land.Te mando mensagem quando eu pousar.
  • Wait here until I come back.Espere aqui até eu voltar.
  • Before you leave, turn off the lights.Antes de sair, apague as luzes.
  • We’ll decide once we’ve seen the price.Vamos decidir assim que virmos o preço.
  • She’ll call you as soon as she gets the results.Ela vai te ligar assim que receber os resultados.

Erros comuns

  • ✗ When I will arrive at the hotel, I’ll call you.✓ When I arrive at the hotel, I’ll call you.O “quando eu chegar” do português parece futuro, mas depois de when o inglês usa o presente: when I arrive.
  • ✗ I’ll send you the photos after I finished.✓ I’ll send you the photos after I’ve finished.Para uma ação futura já concluída, usa-se o present perfect ou o presente: after I’ve finished, e não o past simple.
  • ✗ If I get home, I’ll call you. (com certeza vou chegar)✓ When I get home, I’ll call you.Para algo que com certeza vai acontecer, o inglês usa when; if indica só uma possibilidade.
  • ✗ I won’t start until you don’t come.✓ I won’t start until you come.O português diz “enquanto você não vier”, com negação, mas until já tem esse sentido: until you come.
  • ✗ Before to leave, close the window.✓ Before you leave, close the window.Depois de before vem uma oração (you leave) ou -ing (leaving), nunca to + verbo.
