Primer condicional (if + presente)
El primer condicional habla de posibilidades reales en el futuro: si pasa esto, pasará aquello.
| condición | consecuencia |
|---|---|
| If it rains, | we’ll stay at home. |
| If you don’t hurry, | you’ll miss the bus. |
Reglas
- Tras if, presente, no will: If it will rain ✗ (igual que en español: si llueve).
- El orden puede cambiar: We’ll stay at home if it rains (sin coma).
- unless = a menos que: I won’t go unless you come.
- when para lo que seguro pasará: When I get home, I’ll call you.
Ejemplos
- If you need help, I’ll come.Si necesitas ayuda, iré.
- If the price goes down, we’ll buy it.Si baja el precio, lo compraremos.
- What will you do if they say no?¿Qué harás si dicen que no?
- I’ll be late unless I take a taxi.Llegaré tarde a menos que coja un taxi.
- If it snows, the flight will be cancelled.Si nieva, cancelarán el vuelo.
Errores comunes
- ✗ If I will have time, I will come.✓ If I have time, I will come.Tras if se usa el present simple y no will, aunque el significado sea de futuro.
- ✗ Unless you don’t hurry, we’ll be late.✓ Unless you hurry, we’ll be late.Unless ya significa a menos que no, así que el verbo que le sigue no lleva negación.
- ✗ If he comes, I would tell him.✓ If he comes, I will tell him.El primer condicional pide will en la parte principal y no would.
- ✗ I will go if I will be free.✓ I will go if I am free.Aunque la frase termine con la condición, tras if sigue el present simple.
- ✗ If I will see him, I will tell him.✓ If I see him, I will tell him.Tras if no se usa will, y el verbo va en present simple.
