Birinci tip koşul cümleleri (if + present)

Birinci tip koşul cümleleri gelecekteki gerçek olasılıklardan söz eder: bu olursa, şu olacak.

Kurallar

• if’ten sonra will değil, present gelir: If it will rain ✗ (Türkçede de “yağarsa” deriz, “yağacaksa” değil).
• Sıra değişebilir: We’ll stay at home if it rains (virgülsüz).
• unless = -mAdIkçA, -mAzsA: I won’t go unless you come.
• Kesin olacak şeyler için when: When I get home, I’ll call you.

Örnekler

• If you need help, I’ll come.Yardıma ihtiyacın olursa gelirim.
• If the price goes down, we’ll buy it.Fiyat düşerse alırız.
• What will you do if they say no?Hayır derlerse ne yapacaksın?
• I’ll be late unless I take a taxi.Taksiye binmezsem geç kalacağım.
• If it snows, the flight will be cancelled.Kar yağarsa uçuş iptal edilecek.

Sık yapılan hatalar

• ✗ If the bus will be late, I will take a taxi.✓ If the bus is late, I will take a taxi.If’ten sonra will gelmez, present kullanılır: if the bus is late. Türkçede de “gecikirse” denir, “gecikecekse” değil.
• ✗ If you don’t hurry, you miss the bus.✓ If you don’t hurry, you will miss the bus.Ana cümlede sonuç gelecekte olduğu için will gerekir: you will miss. Türkçedeki “kaçırırsın” geniş zamanı buraya uymaz.
• ✗ I won’t go unless you don’t come.✓ I won’t go unless you come.Unless zaten olumsuz anlam taşır (-mAdIkçA), bu yüzden ardından olumlu fiil gelir: unless you come.
• ✗ We will stay at home, if it rains.✓ We will stay at home if it rains.If cümleciği sonda olunca virgül kullanılmaz. Başta olunca virgül gelir: If it rains, we will stay at home.
• ✗ Unless it rains, we will stay at home.✓ If it rains, we will stay at home.Unless “if not” demektir. Yağmurda evde kalmak istiyorsanız if kullanılır; unless anlamı tersine çevirir.
