Premier conditionnel (if + présent)
Le premier conditionnel parle de possibilités réelles dans le futur : si ceci arrive, cela arrivera.
| condition | conséquence |
|---|---|
| If it rains, | we’ll stay at home. |
| If you don’t hurry, | you’ll miss the bus. |
Règles
- Après if, présent, pas will : If it will rain ✗ (comme en français : s’il pleut).
- L’ordre peut changer : We’ll stay at home if it rains (sans virgule).
- unless = à moins que, sauf si : I won’t go unless you come.
- when pour ce qui arrivera sûrement : When I get home, I’ll call you.
Exemples
- If you need help, I’ll come.Si tu as besoin d’aide, je viendrai.
- If the price goes down, we’ll buy it.Si le prix baisse, nous l’achèterons.
- What will you do if they say no?Que feras-tu s’ils disent non ?

- If it snows, the flight will be cancelled.S’il neige, le vol sera annulé.
Erreurs courantes
- ✗ If I will have time, I will come.✓ If I have time, I will come.Après if on emploie le present simple et non will, même si le sens est futur.
- ✗ Unless you don’t hurry, we’ll be late.✓ Unless you hurry, we’ll be late.Unless signifie déjà à moins que, donc le verbe qui suit ne prend pas de négation, malgré le ne explétif français.
- ✗ If he comes, I would tell him.✓ If he comes, I will tell him.Le premier conditionnel demande will dans la proposition principale et non would.
- ✗ I will go if I will be free.✓ I will go if I am free.Même quand la phrase se termine par la condition, après if on garde le present simple.
- ✗ If I will see him, I will tell him.✓ If I see him, I will tell him.Après if on n’emploie pas will, le verbe est au present simple.
