Erros comuns

  • ✗ I’d rather to stay at home tonight.✓ I’d rather stay at home tonight.O português diz “prefiro ficar”, com infinitivo direto, e would rather também vai sem to: would rather stay.
  • ✗ I’d rather you don’t tell anyone.✓ I’d rather you didn’t tell anyone.O português diz “preferia que você não contasse”, no subjuntivo; em inglês would rather + pessoa pede o past simple: didn’t tell.
  • ✗ You had better to call your mother.✓ You had better call your mother.Depois de had better vem a forma base, sem to.
  • ✗ You’d better don’t be late.✓ You’d better not be late.O “é melhor você não se atrasar” do português não se calca com don’t: a negativa é had better not.
  • ✗ I’d rather take the train that drive.✓ I’d rather take the train than drive.O “do que” do português, para comparar as duas opções, é than em inglês, e não that.
