Dolaylı sorular (Can you tell me where…?)

Dolaylı sorular daha kibardır. Giriş kalıbından sonra soru düz cümle sırası alır: devrik yapı yok, do / does / did yok.

Sık yapılan hatalar

• ✗ Do you know when does the next train leave?✓ Do you know when the next train leaves?Dolaylı soruda does kullanılmaz ve cümle düz sıradadır: when the next train leaves. -s fiile geri döner.
• ✗ I wonder if did she read my message.✓ I wonder if she read my message.Dolaylı soruda did kalkar ve sıra düz olur: if she read. Türkçedeki “okudu mu acaba” yapısı soru sırasına yönlendirir.
• ✗ Could you tell me how much costs the ticket?✓ Could you tell me how much the ticket costs?Giriş kalıbından sonra özne fiilden önce gelir: how much the ticket costs. Devrik sıra burada yanlıştır.
• ✗ I’d like to know what time opens the bank.✓ I’d like to know what time the bank opens.Dolaylı soruda özne önce, fiil sonra gelir: what time the bank opens. Türkçedeki “banka saat kaçta açılıyor” sırası özneyi öne koysa da fiil karışır.
• ✗ Do you know is she at home?✓ Do you know if she is at home?Evet / hayır sorusu dolaylı hâle gelince if ya da whether eklenir ve sıra düz olur: if she is at home. Türkçedeki “evde mi” bunu tek ekle çözer.
