Question tags (…, isn’t it?)

Question tags, cümle sonundaki kısa sorulardır; Türkçedeki “değil mi?” gibidir. Onay almak ya da kontrol etmek için kullanılır. Olumlu cümle → olumsuz tag, olumsuz cümle → olumlu tag.

Özel durumlar

• I am → aren’t I? I’m late, aren’t I?
• Emir kipi → will you? Close the door, will you?
• Let’s → shall we? Let’s go, shall we?

Örnekler

• Nice weather, isn’t it?Hava güzel, değil mi?
• You’re coming tomorrow, aren’t you?Yarın geliyorsun, değil mi?
• He doesn’t eat meat, does he?Et yemiyor, değil mi?
• We’ve met before, haven’t we?Daha önce tanıştık, değil mi?
• It isn’t far, is it?Uzak değil, değil mi?

Sık yapılan hatalar

• ✗ She doesn’t drink coffee, doesn’t she?✓ She doesn’t drink coffee, does she?Olumsuz bir cümleden sonra tag olumlu olur: does she? Türkçedeki “değil mi” her zaman aynıdır, İngilizcede tersine döner.
• ✗ You have been here before, didn’t you?✓ You have been here before, haven’t you?Tag, cümledeki yardımcı fiili tekrarlar: have → haven’t you? Did ancak cümle past simple ise kullanılır.
• ✗ I am late, amn’t I?✓ I am late, aren’t I?I am için olumsuz tag istisnadır: aren’t I? Amn’t I standart İngilizcede kullanılmaz.
• ✗ Close the door, do you?✓ Close the door, will you?Emir cümlesinden sonra tag will you? olur. Türkçede bu durumda “kapatır mısın?” denir ve tag gerekmez.
• ✗ Let’s go, don’t we?✓ Let’s go, shall we?Let’s ile başlayan öneriden sonra tag shall we? olur. Türkçedeki “gidelim mi?” bunun karşılığıdır.
