Personal pronouns (я, ти, ви…)
Ukrainian has an informal “you” (ти) and a formal or plural “you” (ви). Because the verb ending shows the person, pronouns are often left out in speech.
| singular | plural | |
|---|---|---|
| 1st person | я (I) | ми (we) |
| 2nd person | ти (you, informal) | ви (you, plural / formal) |
| 3rd person | він / вона / воно (he / she / it) | вони (they) |
ти or ви?
- ти: family, friends, children, colleagues of your age if they offer it.
- ви (in letters often Ви): strangers, older people, officials, customers.
