Common mistakes
- ✗ Ustedes sois amigos.✓ Ustedes son amigos.Ustedes uses the third person plural; sois belongs to vosotros. English “you” has a single form, so learners mix them.
- ✗ Vos eres amable.✓ Vos sos amable.Voseo has its own verb forms: sos, tenés, hablás. The tú form eres does not combine with vos.
- ✗ Vosotros están cansados.✓ Vosotros estáis cansados.Vosotros takes -áis, -éis, -ís. The ustedes form están belongs to the other pronoun.
- ✗ Ustedes habláis rápido.✓ Ustedes hablan rápido.Ustedes needs the third person plural. Mixing in vosotros endings is a typical mistake.
- ✗ Vosotros comen mucho.✓ Vosotros coméis mucho.Vosotros takes the -éis ending in the present of -er verbs.
