Common mistakes

  • ✗ rápidomente✓ rápidamente-mente is added to the feminine form: rápida + mente. English “-ly” goes on the plain adjective, so learners keep the masculine.
  • ✗ Hablas muy bueno el español.✓ Hablas muy bien el español.After a verb you need the adverb bien, not the adjective bueno. English “good” and “well” are often mixed up too.
  • ✗ Es mucho bueno.✓ Es muy bueno. Before an adjective use muy; mucho is for nouns and verbs. English “very” and “much” are separate words, but learners swap them.
  • ✗ fácilemente✓ fácilmenteFácil has no feminine form, so -mente is added directly to it. The accent stays where it was in the adjective.
  • ✗ Hablo rápida.✓ Hablo rápido.A short adjective can work as an adverb, but it stays masculine. English “fast” can be both adjective and adverb, so learners do not change it.
