Spaltsätze (It was… that, What I need is…)
Die englische Wortstellung ist fest. Um einen Teil hervorzuheben, teilt man den Satz in zwei Teile. Wo Deutsch einfach umstellt, braucht Englisch diese Struktur.
| Typ | Beispiel |
|---|---|
| It is / was … that / who | It was my sister who found the flat. |
| What … is / was | What I need is a holiday. |
| All … is | All I want is some sleep. |
| The reason / thing … is | The thing I love about Lviv is the coffee. |

Typische Fehler
- ✗ It was John which broke the window.✓ It was John who broke the window.Im Spaltsatz über eine Person steht who, nicht which.
- ✗ What I need are a holiday.✓ What I need is a holiday.Nach einem what-Satz steht das Verb to be im Singular, weil der ganze Satz das Subjekt ist.
- ✗ It was in Paris where we met.✓ It was in Paris that we met.Im Spaltsatz über einen Ort steht that, nicht where.
- ✗ What annoys me it is the noise.✓ What annoys me is the noise.Im what-Satz wird it nicht wiederholt, weil what schon das Subjekt ist.
- ✗ All what I want is peace.✓ All I want is peace.Nach all steht that oder nichts, aber nicht what.
