Numbers with nouns (два брати, п’ять братів)
The form of a noun after a number depends on the number: 1 takes the singular, 2–4 the plural nominative, 5 and above the genitive plural.
| number | form | examples |
|---|---|---|
| 1, 21, 31… | singular | один брат, одна книга, одне вікно |
| 2, 3, 4 (22…) | nominative plural | два брати, дві книги, три вікна |
| 5–20, 25… | genitive plural | п’ять братів, шість книг, десять вікон |
Notes
- один / одна / одне and два / дві change with gender: два брати, дві сестри.
- The last digit decides: 21 студент, 22 студенти, 25 студентів. But 11–14 take the genitive: 12 студентів.
- Years and age: рік / роки / років: 1 рік, 3 роки, 30 років.
