Relativsätze (who, which, that)

Ein Relativsatz gibt mehr Informationen über ein Nomen. Das Relativpronomen hängt davon ab, ob es um eine Person oder eine Sache geht, nicht vom Genus oder Kasus.

fürBeispiel
whoPersonenthe woman who lives next door
whichSachen, Tierethe flat which we rented
thatPersonen oder Sachen (informell)the car that I bought
whoseBesitz (dessen, deren)the man whose dog is barking
whereOrtethe city where I was born

Pronomen weglassen

Ist das Pronomen Objekt im Relativsatz, kann es wegfallen: the film (that) I saw. Ist es Subjekt, nicht: the man who called.

Typische Fehler

  • ✗ Everything what he said✓ Everything that he saidNach everything lautet das Relativpronomen that, deshalb passt what hier nicht.
  • ✗ the house where I live in✓ the house (that) I live inDie Präposition in steht schon am Ende, where ist nicht nötig.
  • ✗ The man who he lives here✓ The man who lives hereWho ersetzt schon das Subjekt, es darf nicht wiederholt werden.
  • ✗ The film what I saw was boring.✓ The film that I saw was boring.Das deutsche was wird im Englischen nicht als Relativpronomen verwendet, hier steht that oder which.
