Üçüncü tip koşul cümleleri (if + had done)

Üçüncü tip koşul cümleleri farklı bir geçmişi hayal eder: olmamış şeyleri ve sonuçlarını. Çoğu zaman pişmanlık bildirir. Biçimi: if + past perfect, would have + geçmiş ortaç. Türkçedeki “-sAydI, -ArdI” yapısına karşılık gelir (bilseydim gelirdim).

Notlar

• Olasılık için could have / might have: If you’d asked, I could have helped.
• Konuşmada: I’d have = I would have; If I’d known = If I had known.

• If I had studied more, I would have passed the exam.Daha çok çalışsaydım sınavı geçerdim.
• She wouldn’t have got the job if she hadn’t applied early.Erken başvurmasaydı işi alamazdı.
• What would you have done if you had been there?Orada olsaydın ne yapardın?
• If you had told me, I could have helped.Bana söyleseydin yardım edebilirdim.
• If it hadn’t rained, we would have gone hiking.Yağmur yağmasaydı yürüyüşe giderdik.

Sık yapılan hatalar

• ✗ If I had left earlier, I would catch the train.✓ If I had left earlier, I would have caught the train.Geçmişte olmamış bir sonucun hayali would have + geçmiş ortaç ile söylenir: would have caught.
• ✗ If you called me, I could have come.✓ If you had called me, I could have come.Geçmişte olmamış bir koşul past perfect ister: if you had called. Türkçedeki “arasaydın” ikinci ve üçüncü tipi ayırmaz.
• ✗ If it hadn’t snowed, we would have drive home.✓ If it hadn’t snowed, we would have driven home.Would have’den sonra geçmiş ortaç gelir: driven. Yalın fiil burada yanlıştır.
• ✗ What would you have said if you were in my place?✓ What would you have said if you had been in my place?Geçmiş bir durumu hayal ederken if kısmı past perfect olur: if you had been. Were şimdiki hayalî durumlar içindir.
• ✗ If I had known, I would had come.✓ If I had known, I would have come.Would’dan sonra had değil have gelir: would have come. Had sadece if kısmında bulunur.
