There is / there are (var)
there is / there are = var. Türkçeden farklı olarak biçim değişir: there is + tekil, there are + çoğul. Olumsuzu “yok” anlamına gelir.

Sıralama
Yer genellikle sona gelir: There is a pharmacy next to the station. Türkçede ise başa gelir: İstasyonun yanında bir eczane var.

- ✗ There is two banks here.✓ There are two banks here.Türkçede “var” hiç değişmez, İngilizcede ise çoğulla there are kullanılır: there are two banks.
- ✗ In the fridge is no milk.✓ There is no milk in the fridge.Türkçe sırayı (buzdolabında süt yok) korumak yanlış olur. İngilizce cümle there is ile başlar, yer sona gelir.
- ✗ Is a café in this street?✓ Is there a café in this street?Soruda there düşmez, is ile yer değiştirir: Is there a café? Türkçedeki “var mı” bunu tek kelimeyle söyler.
- ✗ There aren’t some eggs.✓ There aren’t any eggs.Olumsuz cümlede ve soruda some yerine any kullanılır: there aren’t any eggs. Some olumlu cümleler içindir.
- ✗ There have many cafés in this street.✓ There are many cafés in this street.“Var” bazen have ile karıştırılır, ama bir yerde bir şey bulunduğunu söylerken there are kullanılır.
