There is / there are (є, існує)
there is / there are означає «є, існує, знаходиться». Українською ми кажемо «У місті є парк», англійською — There is a park in the city. there is + однина, there are + множина.

Порядок слів
Місце зазвичай стоїть у кінці, а не на початку, як в українській: There is a pharmacy next to the station. (Біля вокзалу є аптека.)

- ✗ There is two books.✓ There are two books.Вибір між is і are залежить від іменника, що йде далі: перед множиною ставимо there are.
- ✗ Is a cat on the sofa?✓ Is there a cat on the sofa?У питанні міняємо місцями is і there, тож питання про наявність починається з Is there.
- ✗ There have a park near here.✓ There is a park near here.Для наявності чогось у англійській вживаємо there is, а не there have.
- ✗ There are no a shops.✓ There are no shops.Після there are no артикль не потрібен, бо no саме вказує на відсутність.
