Haberler ve resmî metinler, kaynak belirtmeden görüş aktarır: It is said that… (… olduğu söyleniyor), He is believed to… (onun … olduğuna inanılıyor). Tipik fiiller: say, believe, think, expect, report, know.

Sık yapılan hatalar

• ✗ She is said that she is a great cook.✓ She is said to be a great cook.Kişi özne olunca is said to + fiil yapısı kullanılır: she is said to be. Türkçedeki “iyi bir aşçı olduğu söyleniyor” that’li cümleye yönlendirir.
• ✗ He is thought being the new manager.✓ He is thought to be the new manager.Bu yapıda be thought, be said, be believed’den sonra to + fiil gelir: is thought to be. -ing burada yanlıştır.
• ✗ It expects that the weather will improve.✓ It is expected that the weather will improve.It ile başlayan aktarım cümlesi edilgendir: it is expected that. Türkçedeki -il eki (bekleniyor) bunu tek kelimede söyler.
• ✗ The missing hikers believe to be alive.✓ The missing hikers are believed to be alive.İnanan kişiler değil, başkalarıdır; bu yüzden edilgen be believed gerekir: are believed to be.
• ✗ It is knowing that smoking is harmful.✓ It is known that smoking is harmful.Edilgen aktarımda geçmiş ortaç kullanılır: it is known that. Türkçedeki “bilinmektedir” buna karşılık gelir.
