Karşılaştırma ve üstünlük (comparatives and superlatives)
Kısa sıfatlar -er / -est alır. Uzun sıfatlar more / most kullanır. İki şeyi karşılaştırırken than (-DAn) kullanılır.

Yapılar
- Fark: Lviv is smaller than Kyiv (Lviv, Kyiv’den küçük).
- Eşitlik: as … as: My flat is as big as yours (benimki seninki kadar büyük).
- Üstünlük her zaman the ile: the best, the most important.

- The train is faster than the bus.Tren otobüsten daha hızlı.
- This course is more difficult than I thought.Bu kurs düşündüğümden daha zor.
- It’s the best café in town.Şehrin en iyi kafesi.
- My English is not as good as my German.İngilizcem Almancam kadar iyi değil.
- Today is warmer than yesterday.Bugün dünden daha sıcak.
Sık yapılan hatalar
- ✗ A taxi is more fast than a bus.✓ A taxi is faster than a bus.Kısa sıfatlar more almaz, -er alır: faster. More sadece uzun sıfatlar içindir: more expensive.
- ✗ It is the most cheap shop.✓ It is the cheapest shop.Kısa sıfatların üstünlüğü -est ile yapılır: the cheapest. Türkçedeki “en ucuz” her sıfat için aynıdır, İngilizcede değil.
- ✗ My flat is as big than yours.✓ My flat is as big as yours.Eşitlik as … as ile kurulur; than sadece farkı anlatırken kullanılır: as big as, bigger than.
- ✗ This is best café in town.✓ This is the best café in town.Üstünlükten önce her zaman the gelir: the best. Türkçede tanımlık olmadığı için “en iyi” the’siz çevrilir.
- ✗ Your English is gooder than mine.✓ Your English is better than mine.Good düzensizdir: good, better, the best. Gooder diye bir biçim yoktur; bad de aynı şekilde worse, the worst olur.
