The more …, the more: -dikçe, gittikçe, ne kadar … o kadar
-dikçe / -dıkça means “the more …, the more …” or “whenever”: Okudukça öğreniyorsun (The more you read, the more you learn). It takes no personal ending.

What should you know?
- -dikçe has no personal ending; the subject shows the person: *Ben okudukça*.
- -medikçe means “unless, as long as … not”: *Çağırmadıkça gelme* (Don't come unless I call you).
- gittikçe and giderek mean “more and more, increasingly”.
- Equally common: ne kadar … -se, o kadar ….

- ✗ Ne kadar çok çalışırsın, o kadar başarılı olursun.✓ Ne kadar çok çalışırsan, o kadar başarılı olursun.English “the more you work” has a normal verb; after ne kadar the Turkish verb takes -se: çalışırsan.
- ✗ Hava daha ve daha soğuk oluyor.✓ Hava gittikçe soğuyor.English “colder and colder” is not built with daha ve daha; “more and more” is gittikçe or giderek.
- ✗ Ben gördükçem gülüyorum.✓ Ben gördükçe gülüyorum.-dikçe takes no personal ending; the person is shown by ben.
- ✗ Konuştukçe daha iyi anlıyorum.✓ Konuştukça daha iyi anlıyorum.The ending follows 2-way harmony: after the u in konuştuk it is -ça.
