The ablative: -den, -dan, -ten, -tan (where from?)
The ablative answers Nereden? (where from?) and replaces English from, and in some phrases of and than: Londra'dan geliyorum (I come from London). After voiceless consonants it becomes -ten / -tan.

Common mistakes
- ✗ Ben Londra geliyorum.✓ Ben Londra'dan geliyorum.English “from London” uses a preposition; Turkish puts the ablative on the name: Londra'dan.
- ✗ Ben köpeğin korkuyorum.✓ Ben köpekten korkuyorum.English “afraid of” leads to the genitive; korkmak takes the ablative: köpekten.
- ✗ Marketden geliyorum.✓ Marketten geliyorum.After the voiceless t, the d of the suffix becomes t: marketten.
- ✗ Okulden çıkıyorum.✓ Okuldan çıkıyorum. The suffix follows the last vowel: after the u in okul it is -dan.
- ✗ Dokuz beşe kadar çalışıyorum.✓ Dokuzdan beşe kadar çalışıyorum.English “from nine to five” has “from” on the start; Turkish puts the ablative on it: dokuzdan beşe kadar.
