regraexemplos
a maioria: -sbook → books, car → cars
-s, -sh, -ch, -x: -esbus → buses, box → boxes
consoante + y: -iescity → cities, (mas: day → days)
-f / -fe: -vesknife → knives, wife → wives
irregularesman → men, woman → women, child → children, person → people, foot → feet, tooth → teeth

  • people já é plural: people are.

Exemplos

  • I have two children.Eu tenho dois filhos.
  • There are three buses to the airport.Há três ônibus para o aeroporto.
  • Many people work from home.Muitas pessoas trabalham de casa.
  • These cities are very old.Estas cidades são muito antigas.
  • Our feet are cold.Nossos pés estão frios.

Erros comuns

  • ✗ She gave me some good informations.✓ She gave me some good information.“Informações” é plural em português, mas information é incontável em inglês e não leva -s.
  • ✗ The people is very friendly here.✓ The people are very friendly here.“O povo é” fica no singular em português, mas people já é plural em inglês e pede are.
  • ✗ My two childs go to the same school.✓ My two children go to the same school.child tem plural irregular: children; childs não existe.
  • ✗ There are three boxs on the floor.✓ There are three boxes on the floor.
